Compression products (stockings, arm sleeves, joint supports) are medical devices made from elastic, knitted textiles. Compression refers to the mechanical pressure applied externally to a part of the body. In compression products, this pressure arises from the difference in size between the body part and the product, as well as the elastic properties of the material. Designed to exert the medically prescribed level of pressure on the limb, compression products help prevent diseases, alleviate symptoms, and support recovery.
The compression level of a product—that is, the amount of pressure it applies to the limb—determines its areas of use. There are four main compression levels: I (mild), II (medium), III (strong), and IV (very strong). Products with the so-called 0 (very mild) compression level are popular for their comfort-enhancing effect but are not intended for prevention or treatment.
The use of the products is shown in the following table:
Compression level | Application | Availability |
