Compression stockings are therapeutic equipments made of a elastic, knitted textile. Compression is a mechanic pressure exerted from outside on a certain body part. In case of compression stockings, this pressure is due to the size difference between the limb and the stocking, respectively to the elastic stocking material. Compression stockings exert a pressure on the leg that is designed according to medical prescriptions so as to prevent diseases, alleviate symptoms and support recovery.
The compression category of products (the level of compression exerted on a limb) defines the application areas of the products. There are four compression categories: I (soft), II (intermediate), III (strong), IV (extra strong) compression category. Products of compression category 0 (extra soft) are very popular because they make users to feel more comfortable, however, they do not contribute to prevention or recovery.
